The Story of Al Verez
By Al Verez

It all started long, long ago in a music store not so far away! I had dreamt all my life of seeing the world. To travel the globe in search of exotic people and places. I knew that one day my dreams would come true. After all, I was beautiful, young and ready to make beautiful music with someone!
For a while all I did was hang out on a wall. People would look; some would even play with me. It was just never the right one! Until she walked in. It was like fate. She looked at other guitars, but I knew I was the one she wanted. So on that day, I left the music store. She bought me a warm case to sleep in and new amp to play through! I was so happy! And for a while it stayed that way! I traveled all over the United States! I figured this was just the beginning!
I discovered my owner was a bit of a slacker when it came to giving me the attention I needed. But other members of the band we were in loved sitting around playing me after shows and during practice, things like that! They would compliment me on my beauty and my ability to always stay in tune! (Which none of their guitars would do).
Everything in my life was going great until That Day!
You see, I wasn't the only guitar out on the road! It seems there are a lot of us out there chasing our dreams! Fighting for the same thing! Each of us doing what we can to be the best one out there.
Well, two of the guitars I was with out there were tired. They were tired of hearing about me. They were tired of listening to me and most of all they were tired of seeing me! They had a plan!
We were on our way to Gillette, Wyoming. I remember it was kind of cold that day. The trip started out just like any other. We all hopped in the truck and we were off! As we were heading down I-25 one of the older guitars (we'll call him Strat.) he asked if I had ever gone pavement surfing. Surfing? I questioned to him?
Before I knew what had hit me the two of them had thrown me out of the back of the truck. I flew right, I flew left. I barely escaped the trailer and . . .
Grass. I was on the side of the road watching my dreams drive away from me!

I was lonely and scared and wondered if anybody even knew I was gone yet? Lost forever, I was sure of it. Day after day went by and cars, so many cars. Still I just sat there wondering if I was going to make it. I had almost given up hope when a car I had seen drive by everyday that week pulled up next to me. A woman got out, picked me up, put me in her car and started driving!
When the car stopped I noticed I was not home. I was at a place I had never been, with people I had never seen! The woman opened the case and gasped! "WOW, someone has got to be missing you!" she exclaimed! Although she knew I belonged to someone else, it turns out she was a guitar player too! And a pretty good one at that! She loved me. She would play me and play me and play me. Then one day I heard her talking on the phone. She called a factory and then a music store, who called a man, who called my owner!
This woman knew my journey wasn't over yet. She enjoyed my company as I did hers, but she knew it was time to send me on my way!
When my owner arrived at the woman's house she was so grateful. She HAD missed me very much, and had been wondering what happened to me! My owner and the woman sat and talked about me for a while. They were both amazed that I "fell" out of a truck onto a major highway, went under a trailer and managed to land safely without a scratch on me in the grass on the side of the road! My owner thanked her for her honesty and for all the work it took to return me to her. I will never forget that nice woman and what she did for me!
Today, I am home! I am still chasing my dreams and maybe someday, will see the world. Though I still get a little nervous around other guitars!
